Cathedral Stone products

In the Lab. In the Field. Innovation.

Overview

Any homeowner knows the harm that water can cause. In this case, failed rain gutters allowed water to flow over the main entryway, damaging more than 14 feet of Seneca Creek sandstone at this old estate home in Northwest Washington, D.C.

Custom Solution

Cathedral Stone created profiles of the original architectural details, removed the deteriorated sandstone, and recreated the original design using environmentally friendly Jahn M70 sandstone repair mortar. Because the work area was so large, four masons worked side-by-side to do the patching simultaneously. By working together to apply the mortar quickly, the masons avoided any noticeable color change. The mortar was applied in three horizontal tiers on three successive days. The end result was a permanent and attractive replication that looked just as it had originally.

Fifteen years later, the repair is pristine, and it continues to prove that Jahn’s composite materials (available in North America exclusively from Cathedral Stone) look just like real stone.
